Insight
In-Flight Entertainment System used to be this old-fashioned, outdated screen on our flights with unresponsive touch screen and old movies. Not to mention, most of these system UI has not been updated in years. However, this is starting change. Many airlines are seeking advanced IEF system to provide more comfortable, yet entertaining on-air time. Furthermore, many IEF system start at your home, from personal devices. Now, you can not only book, check-in, and see the itinerary; but also check in advance on available movies, shows, games, foods, and other utilities provided during your flight.
During this project, I had an opportunity to create a newer and more advanced IEF system that allowed minimal yet informative UI, but most importantly, variety of options while remaining user friendly. In this Process book, the entire process from basic research to final sample UI can be found. Enjoy.

User Interviews
Once general research was done, I began with user interviews with people who might travel often or might be interested in more advanced in flight entertainment system. Purpose of this stage was to gather user information to create what's lacking in our current system and how can we further improve the experience for users who use this tool during their flights.
User Journey Map
After I have gathered information from the users, I started working on my journey map and began doing a rough wireframe. The below journey map changes through out the trial and error phase as the user feedback would often change the system.
Wireframe | Persona |Visual Asset
Before proceeding with Hi-Fi prototype for user testing, I created a user persona who could represent the general user base and also be part of of our testing process. During this process, I started thinking about rough wireframe and visual assets such as color palette, mood, theme, buttons used, and others.
Hi-Fi Prototype
After receiving feedback on rough wireframe and user feed backs, I created a prototype following the updated journey map that follows six steps.
1. Register name at home screen
2. Look through flight information dashboard
3. Access air view and receive general flight information
4. Control seating to fit the comfort
5. Look through list of movies for entertainment
6. Chat with friends who's also on the flight
The prototype was built with idea in mind that it's still open to improvement and further polishing through more user tastings. It was a challenging process but also was very fun and exciting to create a more enticing and engaging system that I might be able to see in future.
